Dear family and friends,

This past Thursday, October 22nd, Woodlands Memory Care of Rockland conducted universal COVID-19 testing of all residents and all staff members.

We received the results of the comprehensive testing this afternoon and learned that one staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The staff member who tested positive had passed the pre-shift medical screening prior to their last shift and was showing no symptoms the last time they worked in the community.

All other residents and staff tests, taken on Thursday, came back negative.

However, as many of you know from calls made to designated contacts earlier today, we learned this morning that a resident from Woodlands Memory Care of Rockland, who had been admitted to Pen Bay Medical Center for an unrelated matter on Friday, tested positive for COVID-19 as part of their hospital admission screening. At the time of this writing, that resident remains in the hospital.

Our top priority is the well-being of the residents we serve, and we realize this news will cause concern.

We have a COVID-19 response plan in place to deal with this situation and it is being implemented immediately. We continue to screen all staff before each shift, as we have for the past seven months, and we have increased the frequency of daily resident health monitoring. In addition, we have notified and are in close communication with the Maine Centers for Disease Control and continue to closely follow CDC guidance.

A second-round of universal testing of all staff members as well as all residents will occur tomorrow on Sunday, October 25th. Additionally, out of an abundance of caution, we will conduct a third round of testing for all staff and all residents on Thursday October 29th. (Note: results from the State testing lab take approximately 48 hours to process.)

Please know, we are committed to timely and open communication to keep you informed as this situation progresses. We have created a dedicated webpage to share information at: www.woodlandsmaine.com/rocklandresponse.

Due to government privacy requirements, we cannot divulge any specific information about the individual staff member or individual resident who have tested positive, but please know we will communicate information related to the results of the second and third round of testing quickly and as soon as they are available.

Thank you for your continued support.
