About Woodlands Senior Living

Our Approach

We understand that everyone is unique, so we tailor our approach to care and services to each individual’s needs. We also communicate with the families whose loved ones live with us. With a personal connection to everyone we serve, we strive in every way to make each day the best it can be.

Our History

Family-owned and operated, Woodlands Senior Living is not some faceless corporation. Our values and our practices are the culmination of generations of providing care to seniors in Maine. Owner and President Lon Walters actually grew up at Hillside Terrace, our most intimate and elegant assisted-living facility. It was there, living alongside the residents, that Lon learned the value of caring for others while helping his hardworking mother, Dorothy, who took over the small rest home from her own mother.

Lon applied these early lessons and began what is known today as Woodlands Senior Living. Starting in 1980 with a 39-resident boarding home in Hallowell, Maine, our organization has since grown to 12 facilities in seven locations throughout Maine (Farmington, Lewiston, Brewer, Waterville, Rockland, Cape Elizabeth, & Hallowell) caring for more than 500 residents. Woodlands employs no less than 300 fellow Mainers, many of whom have been with us for years, proudly dedicated to providing excellent care and services to our residents.

In the earliest days, Lon was the administrator and the maintenance man, occasionally filling in for the cook or the medication aide. His can-do mentality defines our culture today – to be hands-on, to take personal responsibility, to have pride in the intrinsic value of caring for others, and to set the standard for senior living in Maine.

Lon has passed these values along to his son, Matthew, now the Chief Operating Officer, as well as to everyone who is part of the Woodlands Senior Living family.
